Forest Bathing

Forest Bathing at the Eno River. This is not a hike, it’s an invitation to give your attention to the land and receive whatever might be offered in return.

“The power of nature exists in its silence.”

Connecting with the natural world (inside and outside) has always been one of my greatest sources of support, especially during times of confusion, crises or pain (mine and ours). It changes me to sit or walk slowly in the woods or by the river, surrender my agenda, and simply receive what is here right now.

I'm excited to share this personal practice with anyone who is open to hanging out with me in the woods for a few hours on a Saturday morning. This is not a hike and does not involve swimming, though you are welcome to do either afterward. Inspired by ancient traditions of finding healing in nature and the Japanese health practice of shinrin-yoku, I'll guide an embodiment practice and meditation to connect with the more-than-human world. Again, this is not a hike, it’s an invitation to give your attention to the land and receive whatever might be offered in return. The only requirement is a willingness to be present.

All ages welcome.

“The power of quiet is great. It generates the same feelings in everything one encounters. It vibrates with the cosmic rhythm of oneness. It is everywhere, available to anyone at any time. It is us, the force within that makes us stable, trusting, and loving. It is contemplation contemplating us. Peace is letting go– returning to the silence that cannot enter the realm of words because it is too pure to be contained in words. This is why the tree, the stone, the river, and the mountain are quiet.”

–Malidoma Patrice Somé

Be Ground

Be crumbled, so wildflowers will come up where you are.

You've been stony for too many years.

Try something different.

Surrender.
