Active Interest

"Tell the truth about your wound, and then you will get a truthful picture of the remedy to apply to it. Don't pack whatever is easiest or more available into the emptiness. Hold out for the right medicine. You will recognize it because it makes your life strong rather than weaker."

–Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Happy first new moon of 2024!

Wishing you a centered and resourced new year.

I'm taking this deep wintertime to cozy up and set some seeds of intentions for the year. It's a weird time to think about starting new actions, but I do appreciate the opportunity for reflection and refreshed perspective.

I'm in the habit of choosing a word for the year –something that, if I remember it, can ground me into how I want to move through my days. This year my word is "active interest" Ok, it's a phrase not a word but I really resonate with it. I heard the phrase recently in the context of drum circles, mindfulness, and reimagining how we do "community" organizing. To me, active interest describes a deeper level of openness, curiosity, and even compassion –all qualities I value and want more of in my life.

How are you starting this new year?
